LensesForHire Review

Have you ever hired a lens from anywhere? How was your experience?
I recently hired a lens from Lensesforhire and it couldn’t have been more simple!

I first found them on the internet after searching for reputable lens hire company. I wanted a longer zoom lens for the London Fashion Weekend. A few people recommended them and I found their site professional and easy to use.

I searched the name of the lens on their site and up popped a few suggestions and prices which I found really simple and useful!

I checked out the different lenses and went for the one that I needed but was also within my budget range. I chose the EF 70-200mm f2.8 L IS USM.
I then changed the hire to 7 days as I needed it for two events and found out how much it would cost for that. I also liked that you could set a price range, look at other items such as lighting and accessories and also filter between Canon and Nikon. All of this proved very useful when you are on a budget and looking for a specific item.
It gives you a lot of information down the side about the lens when you click on it. Including important information like the price and the insurance value.
You get a grid of dates from which you can pick your hire dates. It tells you which dates are available.
It even has tips on how to use the site even better!
Once in your basket you choose the hire dates, the delivery address and it gives you a break down of when the lens comes out to you and goes back which I found so incredibly useful. This part means you know exactly when you will receive your lens and which day you have to send it back. I chose to have mine delivered the day my hire started which was two days before the event I needed it for.
The next part deals with delivery and I chose to have a courier pick mine up for £19 which I thought was reasonable with my £9 postage. This way I didn’t have to worry about getting it back and it all went really smoothly. I sent my back two days after the second event that I needed the lens for.
Then you press complete order, enter your details and payment and you are done!
Overall it cost me just over £100 for 7 days which I didn’t think was too bad on a student budget!
The lens arrived at around 11am on the first day of hire. It was in a box in a blue delivery bag. Once out of the back I took some tape off the join and opened the box up. There was blue sponge padding on top and underneath. The lens came in it’s own carry case and a lens filter with a case.
The package was easy to open and did not damage the box. Also included was a sheet to make sure everything was in there, instruction manual and information on how to send the lens back. I also got some leaflets that I will pass on to my photography friends.
I noticed the lens filter case had a large crack in it (the filter was already on the lens) so I emailed them straight away as it says to do with any breakages.
I had a lovely reply the next day saying not to worry that they know it’s not my doing, they are just very flimsy. They also said they were very sorry that it came damaged and they will replace it for the next customer. The damaged case did not bother me at all and I think it was great customer service.
The Friday before the lens was due back I got an email saying that I could ring the courier (as I had prepaid) and arrange the collection for the Monday. I found this a little confusing as it had said on the instructions that I had to ring on Monday morning between 9am and 11am. However I rang the number provided and stated I needed to book a Monday collection for a lens from Lenses for hire. She took my address and asked if I had everything to package it up and then it was booked. Easiest phone call ever!
I was out Monday so I left the lens with my parents and was told it would be collected between 9-5pm. It would have been nice to have an email to say it would be collected between say 1pm and 2pm for exampl like DPD do, but other than that it was effortlessly simple.
I found it really simple and straightforward to hire from LensessForHire and I will definitely be using them again. I recommend them to anyone and everyone who would like to hire a lens to try out. I also found them the most reasonable of the ones I had looked at previously. The fact that a deposit was not mandatory unless you live outside the British Isles was a godsend! I also liked how insurance was included and a reasonable price. Go try them out!
